This exhibition marks 20 years of Sangini and its remarkable work with women from diverse communities in the North East, especially Sunderland and South Tyneside.
The exhibition is a creative response to the ethos of care, inclusivity and women’s expression by creating a ‘space’ that is diverse, welcoming and inspiring.
The exhibition is curated by Sunderland Women’s Art Group with the aim to highlight the notion of women and art and its role in the social and cultural construct.
This exhibition brings a unique perspective on women’s art in contemporary times – including the current war in Ukraine. Artists from different nationalities and cultures are represented here, providing visibility to a truly diverse feminist expression. We are very proud to invite a Ukrainian artist in a guest role to present her work and she has created a beautiful map of Ukraine with felted flowers.
As part of the exhibition we will be hosting a series of free workshops in paper folding, Wycinanki – Polish paper folding, Arabic Calligraphy, sewing and Rangoli at ACW. And the work produced forms part of the exhibition.
